Recovery Time & Risks for Eyelid Lifts Surgery
Is there any surgery that doesn't have risks?
No, every surgey has its share of risks, and so does eyelid
surgery. But yes it is a comparatively simple operation. below
are mentioned a few points that should be taken into consideration
before deciding to go for eye lid surgery just in case there are
any issues the surgeon will be happy to address your issues
Risks Posed to Eyelid Surgery
Primarily you might encounter some small side effects like a problem
in your vision it can be doubled or blurred. Few patients also complain
of irritation in the eye or excessive water flow from the eye or
even a minor unevenness in the shape and size of the eye.
These issues are temporary in nature and there is no need to worry.
Some issues are of dryness in eye, difficulty in closing eye, or
even prominent scars.
In majority of the cases all these problems get cured own their
own within alittle days but just in case the problem is still there
further medical attention is required.
A more serious issue, which stands a rare chance, is that of bleeding
behind the eye which increases the pressure near the eye and calls
for rectification by medical procedures.
Post eyelid surgery there are a few conditions
that can lead to medical
complications, which should be discussed with the surgeon before
surgery. A few such conditions are dry eyes, problems with thyroid,
tension, heart disease and sugar problems. Please let your surgeon
know about these complications so that the case can be handled accordingly.
Post Operation & Recovery period
After the operation when you open your eyelids they tend to feel
tight and there is a great possibility for them to feel sore with
a burning sensation. Swelling remains for a few weeks and bruising
is there for ten days minimum.
In order to fasten the recovery procedure keep your head high with
the help of pillows in such a position that it is above your heart
level when you are lying down. Application of cold compressors or
ice will help reduce swelling. Consumption of alcohol is not advised.
Intake of alcohol can delay the process of recovery.
Stitches will be removed between 3 to 5 days of operation. The
eye area has to be cleaned often for 7 to 10days after the procedure,
as the eyes tend to become more sticky and itchy. The surgeon may
also advise to use eye drops as a lubricant to cope up with dryness
in the eye.
Wearing of contact lenses for a period of 7 to 14 days of operation
is not advised. Wearing large sunglasses is rather beneficial as
they cover the complete eye portion and protect the eye, as initially
the eye will be very sensitive to sunlight and dust for many weeks
post operation.
Your doctor will make you clear on these entire points prior you
go in for the surgery so that you can overcome your anxiety.
